Academic Coaching

Is a tutoring/mentoring program that helps seniors at Simon Gratz High School with their graduation projects and assists younger students with their writing skills. Contact Matt Shumski – matt.shumski@temple.edu if you are interested in participating, proper background checks and clearances for working with children are necessary.

Art Education Club

Hosts creative art workshops with a wide range of media at Treehouse Books, Penrose recreation center and the local YMCA. Tutors for this program get to make up their own lesson plans and will have a lot of support from the organization. Contact Erica – tua80398@temple.edu if you are interested in the workshops.

We will paint three portable murals with other student and community groups. We will be planning over the next few months and starting to paint in February. Our long term goal for this project is to paint a permanent mural somewhere on the edge of campus to be shared by the Temple and North Philadelphia communities alike! Contact us at tu.projectedu@gmail.com if you are interested in the mural project.

Operation Bookshelf

We have had thousands of books donated to us over the past year and have been tirelessly sorting through them so that we can arrange them into classroom libraries in local schools and recreation centers. The first library should be installed sometime in November, this is a very large project that needs a lot of hands. Contact Ailsa – tuc62877@temple.edu if you can lend a hand.

Philly Eco Kids

Is a collaborative effort between Project EDU and the Students for Environmental Action that teaches students at local schools about various environmental issues through fun and interactive lessons. We ran this program at Dunbar Elementary last year. Contact Korin at phillyecokids@gmail.com if you are interested in participating

Urban Roots

The program will teach Philadelphia middle and high school students about urban farms and small business management. We will then assist the students in creating a farm, maintaining their produce and selling it at a local farmers market. The lessons for this program will be starting in February, and the construction of the farm will start in March. Contact us at tu.projectedu@gmail.com if you are interested in helping.

Adult Literacy Program

This is still in the works, but we are planning an adult literacy program and hope to get it started in the spring.
